Statement

The work I have submitted is a compilation of my artistic talents from drawing to dressmaking and also photography. I am currently at Bolton College completing a two year course on the BTEC Art and Design Extended Diploma. I am specializing in Photography and Fashion and I am also doing an A.S Level in Textiles. I chose to do an extra course because I wanted to learn more skills and techniques. So far I have learnt so much, from ‘gathering’ to ‘tailor stitching’. I am interested in this university course because it is the course that is right for me. Fashion is what I want to do and I am prepared to go to any lengths to achieve my goal and ambitions, which ultimately would be for me to have my own fashion brand called ‘‘By SJ’’.  I feel as if Fashion is my calling and that my true potential can really be explored and brought to life at your university with the professional help of your qualified tutors. I don’t just want to design clothes, I want to make them and bring my 2-D sketches to life! I want to see people wearing my creations and loving the designs that they see and wanting to wear them! I love being able to sit down and just let my imagination run away, allowing me to design and create beautiful designs that show me as an individual designer. Personally I find that college has helped me develop my skills in a way that would have been impossible to learn on my own. I have had a guiding hand which has led me towards my true career and that is to be a fashion designer. Hopefully with more learning to come my way, I will be well and truly on my way to being the next big thing!

End of first year at college Fashion Show: wedding dress

I signed myself up to take part in a Fashion show where i was asked to design, make and model my own creation. I was so excited! Here's what i came up with. The dress itself was made from 100% recycled materials which included old bed sheets, bubble wrap and sequins from an old headband of mine :)

I also decided to create some one of a kind shoes to go with my dress. I used an old pair of black heels and transformed them into these amazing hot pink ones.

Just a few celebrity drawings

I am a huge fan of Rihanna so i couldn't help but draw a portrait of her. The drawing took me around 6-7 hours but i was very happy with the result.

The inspiration for drawing Megan Fox came simply from when I was browsing youtube and I came across a speed charcoal drawing of Megan Fox. So I decided I would attempt it myself and this was the result.

I wanted to try drawing a celebrity from a different angle so i attempted a portrait of the famous Grace Kelly. The posture in which she's sat i found to be quite challenging but i pulled it off and was very impressed with the result i got. My Grandpa loved it :)

This is the only colour portrait I have done because I prefer working with charcoal and pencil rather than coloured pencils. I drew the portrait originally for my mum because she is a fan of the late Jim Morrison.

More photography :)

Reflective Photography as it is called was part of the module that we had to do for our Photography lesson. I incoporated this type of photography into my final piece..

We also had to do some up close photographs of texture so i chose to photograph scrunched up chiffon and it gave me a really good photo in the end.

The girl wearing my dress was the actress as well and this was made and fitted for her only.

New Photography images

These photos all have a meaning which is important to me. My parents, my memories and photographs even my childhood objects all hold a story which is told through the photographs.
